It is Christmas time and what better way to celebrate Christmas than with a homemade, cute, and unique wreath?! I have started watching a new TV series on PBS called “Escape to the Chateau” featuring a French couple called Dick and Angel. Now I will be honest with you, when I first watched this show I thought it was….well, weird. I thought Angle was an eccentric crazy French lady that had very adventurous styles. And I thought Dick was a goofy and good hearted French gentleman that could sport a walrus mustache quite well. Needless to say I didn’t think that show was for me. However, I continued to watch the show because let’s be real…. There are not very many good shows on TV these days. Even though I thought this show was a little quirky, it was a good wholesome show. After watching a few shows I found that Dick and Angle are actually very entertaining to watch and although most of their style designs I would never use in my own home they turn out very nicely in their 1800’s French castle. Also I have found that some of her DIY crafts I really like. These Christmas candy cane wreaths are one of those crafts. I saw her make these and decided to make myself for my own house!
To start you will need candy canes. I wanted to make a big wreath to put in my living room windows. You can play around with how big you want your wreaths but I ended up using 22 canes. Since candy canes are fairly inexpensive I bought a whole pile of them because inevitably there are going to be broken ones. So buy enough because you can’t make these wreaths with broken candy canes. Take two canes and glue them together with hot glue to form a heart shape. Make 11 hearts all together. Once you have 11 hearts, glue them together in a circle. Now this part will take a little finessing because the hearts won’t glue in a perfect circle. I focused on making the outer circle, the ‘humps’ of the hearts. I made sure that they were lined up and forming a pretty good circle. Making sure the tops of the hearts form a circle means that the points of the hearts were not looking so nice. This is the first time that I have ever made this craft so I obviously don’t have the whole perfect circle down pat yet. To hide the uneven points of the hearts I took greenery and glued it onto the points in a perfect circle. Add a little glitter to the greenery and these wreaths turn out very cute!
You want to know what is even more adorable than the big candy cane wreaths? Baby candy cane wreaths! If you can find the miniature canes then you can repeat the same process you did with the big wreaths and make miniature wreaths. To make these baby wreaths you will need 12 mini candy canes and hot glue them together to make 6 mini hearts. Glue them together, add greenery and glitter and voila another charming Christmas wreath! I have two skinny windows on either side of my front door that will fit these mini wreaths perfectly.
I had a blast making these Christmas wreaths and I can’t wait until the next craft I do. Until next time, Merry Christmas!
